The role involves assembling complex components, including gating systems, in a varied and non-repetitive manner to produce mold forms for investment. The technician will pre-inspect pattern and gating components, read and follow tech card assembly instructions that describe numerous unique assembly steps of a complex nature, and plan the methods for completing a given task. Assembly will be done using small torches, hot pencils, and a variety of tools resembling dental instruments. Welding gates into place using torch or hot pencils is required. The technician will work from instructions to position wax and develop code sheets for engineering requested modifications or deviations to standard assemblies.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble complex components including gating systems to produce mold forms.
  • Pre-inspect pattern and gating components.
  • Read and follow tech card assembly instructions for unique assembly steps.
  • Plan methods for completing tasks.
  • Use small torch, hot pencils, and various tools for assembly.
  • Weld gates into place using torch or hot pencils.
  • Position wax and develop code sheets for requested modifications.

Essential Skills

  • Assembly expertise.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
  • Mechanical assembly skills.
  • Electrical soldering experience.
  • Experience with tape measure.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • DT (THC friendly) qualification.

Work Environment

The work environment is a manufacturing setting with various zones, including areas with forklifts, machinery, chemical smells, and temperature extremes. Assembly tasks require standing and sitting, using small tools, and adjusting work platforms in a well-lit space. The foundry zone involves temperature extremes and large pieces of equipment with molten alloy. Investing involves tanks filled with liquid, robotics, and strong chemical odors. Grinding tasks occur in enclosed booths with pneumatic hand grinders, where conditions are loud, dusty, and hot. Sandblasting occurs in walk-in or reach-in booths, which are hot, loud, and dusty. The cleaning process involves using pressure washers, shot blast, hand tools, and sandblast to remove investing material. Utility aides operate forklifts and pallet jacks for material handling.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, Oregon.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.17 - $24.17/hr.
