Specialty: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – ECMO Specialist
Assignment Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: Nights – 3x12 Hours (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
Location: Minneapolis, MN

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced RRT – ECMO Specialist for a 13-week travel assignment in a high-acuity adult critical care setting. Candidates must have hands-on ECMO machine experience and demonstrate advanced respiratory care skills in ICU environments.

Shift & Scheduling Details

  • 3x12 Night Shifts (1830–0700)

  • Occasional rotation to days (0630–1900) as needed

  • Every other weekend required

  • On-call required as needed

  • Floating within scope required

  • Block scheduling: Discuss with manager

  • Locals not accepted (must reside more than 100 miles from facility)

  • Pending license accepted (must be active at start)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of RRT experience required

  • Minimum 1 year ECMO Specialist experience required

  • First-time travelers accepted (must meet ECMO requirement)

  • Adult Critical Care experience required

Required Certifications

  • RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist)

  • Active State Respiratory License

  • BLS

  • ACLS

  • PALS

Clinical Competencies RequiredECMO & Critical Care

  • Protocol-driven ECMO management

  • Care of patients with ARDS, COVID, Pneumonia, Aspiration

  • Bronchoscopy support

  • Fresh tracheostomy management

Airway Management

  • Endotracheal tube management & suctioning

  • Intubation assist & extubation

  • Nasal and oral airway placement

  • Tracheostomy care & suctioning

  • Pulmonary hygiene & sputum specimen collection

Ventilator Management

  • BiPAP / CPAP

  • SIMV

  • Troubleshooting high-pressure alarms

  • Mechanical ventilation weaning

  • Patient transport (inter-departmental & ambulance)

Oxygen & Nebulizer Therapy

  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)

  • Bag & mask ventilation

  • ET Tube oxygen delivery

  • Aerosol setup (mask & trach)

  • Nebulizer types: cold, heated, ultrasonic, handheld, T-piece, trach collar

Medication Administration

  • Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent

  • Flovent, Pulmicort, Spiriva

  • Mucomyst, Tobramycin, Xopenex

  • Inhaled Flolan

  • Nitric Oxide (INo)

  • Racemic epinephrine

Advanced Skills

  • ABG interpretation & arterial puncture

  • Drawing arterial blood gases

  • Chest physiotherapy (vest & manual CPT)
