Our client, a mission-driven housing organization, is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support key HR functions with a strong emphasis on employee relations and workplace investigations. This role serves as a trusted partner to employees and leaders, helping to foster a positive, compliant, and professional work environment.
This is a high-impact, hands-on contract position ideal for an HR professional who can quickly step in to manage sensitive employee situations, conduct investigations, and provide guidance on policies and best practices across the employee lifecycle.
Job Description
The HR Generalist supports a wide range of human resources functions, with a primary focus on employee relations, workplace investigations, and ensuring a positive and compliant work environment. This role partners closely with employees and leaders to address workplace concerns, conduct investigations, provide guidance on HR policies and practices, and support key HR programs throughout the employee lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters, providing guidance and support to employees and managers.
- Conduct workplace investigations involving employee complaints, policy violations, misconduct, harassment, discrimination, and other employee concerns.
- Gather and analyze information, interview involved parties, maintain documentation, and prepare investigation findings and recommendations.
- Partner with leadership and legal/compliance teams as needed to resolve employee relations issues and mitigate organizational risk.
- Advise managers on performance management, corrective action, conflict resolution, and employee engagement strategies.
- Ensure consistent application of company policies, procedures, and employment practices.
- Support employee onboarding, offboarding, and other employee lifecycle activities.
- Assist with leave of absence administration and accommodation processes.
- Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Support recruitment efforts, including interviewing, candidate selection, and onboarding coordination.
- Participate in HR projects, policy development, training initiatives, and process improvement efforts.
- Analyze HR trends and recommend solutions to improve employee experience and organizational effectiveness.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of progressive HR experience, with a focus on employee relations and workplace investigations.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws, HR policies, and best practices.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism and discretion.
- Strong interviewing, conflict resolution, communication, and documentation skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP).
- Experience conducting complex workplace investigations in a multi-site or matrixed organization.
- Strong competencies in employee relations, workplace investigations, conflict resolution, and compliance.
- Demonstrated critical thinking, sound judgment, and ability to influence and build relationships across the organization.
