Job Title: Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TOD/DHH)
Location: Barnegat, NJ
Duration: 12 Weeks
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 6:45 AM – 3:15 PM (30-minute meal break)
Position Overview
A reputable educational institution is seeking a dedicated Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TOD/DHH) to provide specialized instruction and support to students with hearing loss. The ideal candidate will promote academic success, language development, and independence through individualized instruction and collaborative support.
ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Academic Support
- Provide direct instruction in one-on-one and small group settings
- Deliver specialized instruction aligned with Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals
- Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies to meet diverse student needs
Communication Development
- Support language acquisition using appropriate communication methods (e.g., ASL, spoken language, total communication)
- Develop students’ expressive and receptive language skills
IEP Development & Case Management
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs
- Track and analyze student progress to guide instruction
- Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions
Audiological & Assistive Technology Support
- Manage and troubleshoot hearing devices (hearing aids, FM systems, cochlear implants)
- Ensure consistent access to auditory information throughout the school day
Collaboration
- Partner with general education teachers, service providers, and administrators
- Collaborate with families and specialists to support student success
- Recommend classroom accommodations and modifications
Assessment & Evaluation
- Conduct assessments of auditory, language, academic, and functional skills
- Use data to guide instruction and support eligibility decisions
Qualifications
- Valid teaching certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TOD/DHH)
- Experience working with students with hearing loss preferred
- Knowledge of communication methods such as American Sign Language (ASL) and total communication
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
