Job Description
Job DescriptionYou’re not “just helping hold pets.”
You’re the extra set of hands.
The steady presence.
The reason patients stay safe, calm, and cared for.
At Hunter Veterinary Clinic, our veterinary assistants are essential to everything we do. If you love animals and enjoy connecting with people, work well on a team, and don’t mind getting your hands dirty to help patients feel better, we’d love to meet you.
✨ What You’ll Do
You’ll support our doctors and technicians and play a critical role in patient care across a diverse range of species.
- Assist with handling and safely restraining patients — including dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, small mammals, and wild birds such as eagles, owls, and hawks
- Communicate with clients and assist with patient discharges, explaining home-care instructions clearly and compassionately
- Prepare exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical spaces
- Help with in-house lab work (fecals, urinalysis, cytology, heartworm tests, etc.)
- Assist with radiographs under the direction of a DVM or LVT
- Admit patients and support smooth, organized patient flow
- Monitor hospitalized and boarding patients (feeding, walking, administering medications as directed)
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked hospital
- Support the team during busy, urgent, or emotional situations
Your work directly improves patient safety, efficiency, and quality of care.
Who You Are
We can train skills — we can’t train attitude.
You might be perfect for this role if you:
- Genuinely enjoy working with a wide variety of animals, from household pets to exotics and raptors
- Enjoy talking with clients and helping them understand their pet’s care, even when they’re stressed or emotional
- Stay calm and focused in fast-paced or high-stress situations
- Work well as part of a close, team-oriented environment
- Communicate clearly, kindly, and professionally with clients and coworkers
- Are dependable, hardworking, and willing to jump in where needed
- Take pride in keeping your workspace clean and organized
- Are comfortable with physical work and being on your feet most of the day
Veterinary experience is helpful but not required — we’re happy to train the right person with the right mindset.
