My client is a top notch Mechanical Contractor in industrial and commercial construction. They are actively seeking an Estimator with emphasis on HVAC and Plumbing. Responsibilities include:
Provide technical support to the sales team through the preconstruction/pre-sales process including job walks, budgeting, estimating, project schedule preparation, value added analysis and regulatory compliance for all types of construction delivery methods involving Mechanical Contracting to include plumbing and HVAC piping, sheet metal, sprinkler, new work, and system replacements. Job Description ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Prepare take offs, schedules, and prices estimates. • Obtain scopes of work and pricing from subcontractors and suppliers. Review vendor equipment submittals for accuracy and quality of products. • Prepare accurate replacement equipment list, sheet metal, piping, and labor estimates. • Ability to review plan and specifications and provide value engineering for Mechanical systems. • Compile thorough and detailed lists of qualifications, clarifications, and exclusions to effectively communicate our budget assumptions to the client. • Ability to develop bid strategies and closing of mechanical estimates. • Schedule and run turnover conference promptly upon award. • Prepare project construction schedules, cost breakdowns, and cash flow analysis and other computer generated project management tools. • Review plans and construction means/methods with job foreman so that the project is completed within defined budgets and time schedules. • Ability to prepare a procurement plan for buying out the vendors and subcontractors. • Review vendor/subcontractor submittals to ensure adherence to project specifications and requirements. • Control field labor on projects to ensure adherence to labor budgets and project milestones. • Obtain all justifiable change orders on projects through proper document of changes in scope and delays caused by others. • Ensure that projects meet the standards and specifications as bid and customers are satisfied with the final product. • Always establish and maintain good client relationships. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS • Minimum of 5 years’ experience estimating and/or project management of mechanical contracting. Page 2 of 2 • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tolls involved in the mechanical replacement of commercial buildings, hospitals, data centers, and universities. • Have competent technical knowledge of the construction means and methods of mechanical construction including replacement projects, budgeting, monitoring manpower, scheduling, phasing, and planning. • Ability to read and understand engineered drawings, specifications, RFQ’s, RFP’s and bid documents as related to the HVAC mechanical trades. • Knowledge of relevant codes, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote compliant projects within Federal, State, and Local regulations. • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and control all aspects of the bidding process. • Ability to work with the customer to find mutually satisfactory solutions to difficult issues. • Proficient in Quickpen and Microsoft Suite software. • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written. PREFERRED SKILLS • Demonstrate flexibility and cooperativeness. • Excellent communication skills required for both the customer as well as the team contact. • Able to multi-task and prioritize work efficiently.
