Now Hiring Hydraulics Engineer

Full-Time, Remote/Office (United States)


proHNS is a versatile consulting firm dedicated to helping clients and communities reach their development goals. We provide civil engineering, design, construction inspection, permitting, and contract administration services to private developers, municipalities, and State agencies across Alaska, and recently expanded our services to the Lower 48. We are currently seeking a motivated and experienced Hydraulics Engineer with a focus on fish passage and stream restoration design to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a background in hydraulic modeling and river engineering, and a strong understanding of ecological connectivity and aquatic organism passage (AOP).

Key to Success:

  • Perform duties and responsibilities per proHNS policies and procedures.
  • Lead and support AOP passage design projects, including culverts and bypass channels.
  • Develop design drawings, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct field investigations, including site assessments, flow measurements, and topographic surveys.
  • Prepare technical reports, permit applications, and environmental documentation.
  • Collaborate with ecologists, biologists, and regulatory agencies to ensure environmentally sound and regulatory-compliant designs.
  • Provide mentorship to junior staff and participate in client and stakeholder meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or related field.
  • PE license (or ability to obtain within 12 months) preferred.
  • Minimum 37 years of relevant experience in water resources engineering with a focus on fish passage or stream restoration.
  • Proficiency with hydraulic modeling tools (e.g., HEC-RAS, SRH-2D) and CAD/GIS platforms.
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for culvert sizing, stream simulation, or dam removal projects.
  • Familiarity with environmental permitting processes (e.g., Clean Water Act Section 404, ESA consultation).
  • Strong communication, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Valid U.S. drivers license and good driving record.

Expectations:

  • The typical work schedule is 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday. Employees are required to have a willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, overtime when needed, and attending after-hours events such as local government public meetings. The selected candidate may work remotely or out of either our Juneau or Sedro-Woolley office.
  • Ability to work seamlessly in a team setting.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use their hands to finger, handle, or feel objects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Compensation and Benefits:

Employees receive a competitive benefit package, including Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Short and Long-Term Disability insurance plans, with the employer paying 100% of the employee plans. Employees are eligible to participate in our company's 401(k) plan with up to a 4% contribution from the employer. Additionally, employees also receive paid time off and eight paid holidays. proHNS pays for expenses associated with licensure as well as an annual performance bonus.

The wage range for this position is $50+ per hour/DOE and Full-Time.
