Position Description

Job Title: Preschool Teacher

Job Status: Part-Time, Non- Exempt

Reporting Functions: Reports to the Principal.

Job Function: A professional who educates students three to five years old. Main duties include teaching children about basic academic fundamentals, phonics, numbers, colors and shapes, helping children build their social skills, and keeping the classroom clean and safe for all of the students and Teachers. Preschool Teachers should have effective communication and interpersonal skills to properly listen to the needs of both parents and students and to provide clear verbal reports on the children's performance. They should also work well with children and possess patience and understanding when taking care of children and addressing their needs.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with staff, children, and families.


  • Plan and implement an enriching curriculum that helps move children as individuals and a group towards meeting their developmental goals. Work with other teachers cooperatively, maintaining open communication of whereabouts at all times.


  • Ability to manage classroom activities including lessons, play, breaks, and meals with enthusiasm and flexibility when needed.


  • Track students' progress and report to Lead Teacher.


  • Share input with Lead Teacher for parent/teacher communication to enhance the student's learning experience.


  • Inform school administrators of any special needs or concerns about a student.


  • Educate and reinforce Holy Family Preschool rules of behavior and safety guidelines.


  • Respectful and organized with preschool tools and resources for children to use and explore during learning and play activities.


  • Utilization of preschool schedule and agenda as per Lead Teacher's instruction to meet the objectives and goals of preschoolers.


  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and sanitary classroom environment. Keep classroom shelves, counters, storage areas, and bathrooms orderly and free of clutter.


  • Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to implement lesson plans, activities, and projects. Work with the preschool team in the classroom to facilitate various activities for children including songs, games, and storytelling.


  • Provide supervision for children at all times.


  • Any other duties assigned by the Lead Teacher and/or Principal.

Educational Requirements:

  • Associate Degree or higher in ECE/CD or related field.


  • Successful course completion in the following areas: Child Development, Child/Family/Community Relations, Child Psychology, and/or Sociology.


Other Requirements:

  • Possess an understanding of child development and the skills necessary to relate to the student being taught.


  • Able to maintain a high level of energy. Ability to respond calmly to overwhelming and difficult situations.


  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, a high degree of credibility, integrity, and self-confidence is essential.


  • Ability to be alert to the needs of children as individuals and as a group.


PRIOR TO INTERVIEW: Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Act 153 of 2014 (No less than 1 year old.) As well as attendance at the online Protecting God's Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit on the floor or low chair, walk, stand (up to 1 hour at a time), bend, crouch, kneel, crawl, and sit on the floor with young children. Must be able to talk and hear, both in person and by telephone. Use of hands to operate standard office equipment; with occasional reaching and lifting to 30 pounds. Level of physical fitness that allows for keeping pace with the activity level of young children throughout the school day.


Working Conditions: Normal preschool classroom setting, Part-time, 29 hours per week. May be required to assist with special duties and work outside the normal school day to attend school-related events.
