✈️ Machine Shop Foreman – Aerospace Industry

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Machine Shop Foreman to lead operations in our aerospace-focused machine shop. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in precision machining, leadership experience, and a deep understanding of aerospace manufacturing standards. This role ensures production efficiency, quality compliance (e.g., AS9100), and team coordination to meet strict aerospace industry requirements. This position is fully involved in the operations side of the business including making set ups/ programming on the lathe and also running parts. This is also a managerial role.

Key Responsibilities:

️ Production Leadership

  • Supervise and coordinate daily activities of CNC machinists
  • Assign work based on production schedule
  • Monitor workflow and adjust schedules to meet aerospace job deadlines
  • Suggest overtime as needed to maintain on time delivery with customers

Precision & Quality Assurance

  • Oversee machining operations to ensure compliance with tight aerospace tolerances
  • Ensure parts meet specifications using all in house inspection tools. Including CMM, Dial bore gages, Sunnen gage and comparator.
  • Enforce adherence to AS9100 or NADCAP standards and company quality procedures

️ Safety & Compliance

  • Promote a culture of safety and enforce OSHA and internal safety protocols
  • Ensure proper documentation and traceability for aerospace components
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready machine shop

Machine & Tooling Oversight

  • Coordinate maintenance of CNC mills, lathes, EDMs, and support equipment
  • Recommend tooling improvements and manage calibration schedules

Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with engineering and QA teams to resolve machining issues and direct the appropriate personnel to fix such issues. If not must be done by yourself.
  • Lead efforts to reduce scrap, improve cycle times, and enhance process efficiency

Team Management & Training

  • Train team members on new machines, techniques, and safety practices
  • Conduct performance evaluations and mentor junior staff

Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate logs, production records, and inspection reports
  • Report to operations or plant management on production KPIs and workforce needs

Qualifications:

  • Must have a can do attitude enthusiastic about helping grow the company to the next level
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Must have experience running Doosan Lynx CNC lathes and prefer to have experience with Hurco CNC Mills.
  • This is a lathe dominant position. Must be able to fully program and set up CNC lathe. Hand G-Code programming is preferred.
  • Must have experience with most facets of CNC lathe chuck and collet chuck set ups.
  • Minimum 10 years of aerospace machining experience, including CNC operations
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in a precision machine shop
  • Expertise in reading aerospace blueprints, GD&T, and using inspection tools
  • Strong knowledge of AS9100
  • Proficient in shop ERP systems and using a computer
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills

Preferred Experience:

  • Familiarity with materials common in aerospace (e.g., titanium, Inconel, aluminum alloys)
  • Experience with 5-axis CNC machining and complex aerospace components
  • Understanding of SPC (Statistical Process Control) and lean manufacturing principles

Work Environment:

  • Full-time, on-site in a precision aerospace manufacturing environment
  • May require standing for long periods, lifting parts/tools up to 50 lbs, and occasional overtime

Must be able to work in a fast-paced, quality-driven setting with strict compliance needs
