Environmental Coordinator – Civil & Infrastructure Projects

Location: Otsego, MN (office and field-based)

Type: Full-time

Overview:

We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading North American infrastructure contractor, for an Environmental Coordinator to support environmental compliance across linear construction projects in the Midwest region. This role sits within a growing environmental function and has been created to provide dedicated, on-the-ground support to project teams.

The position combines field-based compliance, environmental monitoring, and coordination activities, ensuring that construction operations align with environmental regulations, permits, and company standards. This is a hands-on role requiring close collaboration with operations, safety, and project leadership teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and maintain environmental compliance across construction projects, including air, water, waste, and ecological requirements.

• Conduct environmental inspections, audits, and site observations to ensure adherence to permits and regulatory standards.

• Monitor compliance with environmental permits and identify risks or gaps proactively.

• Support the development of environmental plans, permitting documentation, and compliance reporting.

• Collect, analyze, and report environmental data, including trend analysis and risk identification.

• Manage environmental reporting requirements and ensure timely submission of documentation.

• Collaborate closely with project managers, construction teams, estimators, and safety professionals.

• Support environmental risk mitigation strategies, particularly in sensitive environments such as wetlands, waterways, and protected habitats.

• Contribute to sustainability initiatives at project and organizational level.

Project Environment:

• Combination of office-based work and field deployment across active construction sites.

• Projects primarily involve linear infrastructure such as transmission lines, pipelines, underground utilities, and related works.

• Travel required approximately 30–60% across regional projects, including overnight stays.

• Role requires regular interaction with field crews and operational teams in active construction environments.

Ideal Background & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Natural Sciences, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).

• Typically 3–5+ years of environmental compliance experience within construction, energy, or infrastructure sectors.

• Strong exposure to linear infrastructure projects such as utilities, pipelines, or transmission is preferred.

• Knowledge of key environmental compliance areas including stormwater management, waste handling, air quality, and environmental risk management.

• Familiarity with tools such as ArcGIS, Survey123, compliance tracking systems, and Microsoft Office.

Mindset & Cultural Fit:

• Strong problem-solving capability with a practical, solutions-oriented approach.

• Able to work independently in the field while maintaining strong communication with remote leadership.

• Relationship-driven, with the ability to build trust and influence project teams.

• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and documentation discipline.

• Adaptable and comfortable operating in fast-paced, project-driven environments.

Working Model & Requirements:

• Based within commuting distance of Otsego, MN or willing to relocate.

• Comfortable with regular travel and a mix of office and field-based work.

• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel independently between project sites.

Career Opportunity:

This role offers the opportunity to become a key environmental partner within an established and growing infrastructure business, with exposure to large-scale projects and the potential to develop into regional environmental leadership roles over time.
