This Full-Time 1099 Contract / Locum Tenens opportunity offers stability, cultural connection, and professional fulfillment in an outpatient behavioral health setting.
Schedule & Details:
- 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday
- No weekends, holidays, overtime or on-call
- Full-time hours
- Can work of any US license
- Up to 1 year initial contract with optional extensions
- Outpatient psychiatry with possible telepsychiatry opportunities
- Multiple contract openings in the Navajo Area
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide psychiatric evaluations, crisis intervention, medication management, and ongoing treatment for patients across the lifespan.
- Conduct follow-up visits, diagnostic assessments, and treatment planning in accordance with IHS standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary medical and behavioral health staff to deliver coordinated, culturally competent care.
- Maintain detailed and timely documentation in the IHS electronic health record (EHR) system. (RPMS)
- Participate in team meetings, case reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Comply with all federal, IHS, and Joint Commission regulations and documentation requirements.
Additional Duties:
Additional responsibilities may be added as needed to support clinic operations and community programs. This job description does not imply that these are the only duties to be performed. Contractors must follow all other job-related instructions as assigned by the Behavioral Health Director or designated supervisor.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited institution.
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited psychiatric residency.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry (must obtain certification within two years if eligible).
- Active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory.
- Current DEA registration for prescribing controlled substances.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in outpatient or community psychiatry.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working in Indian Health Service, federal, or government healthcare settings.
- Telepsychiatry or Locum Tenens experience.
- Familiarity with culturally responsive care for Native American communities.
