Planned Parenthood of Florida is seeking a strategic, experienced, and mission-driven Vice President of Public Affairs to lead and advance our statewide public policy, advocacy, and organizing efforts during a pivotal moment for sexual and reproductive health care.
The Vice President of Public Affairs is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic direction of the Public Affairs department, which encompasses Organizing, Policy, Advocacy, Data, and Operations. This role oversees a talented team of directors, leads cross-departmental planning and strategy development, and works closely with internal and external partners to advance the interests of Planned Parenthood of Florida.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative and decisive leader with deep experience in legislative affairs, public policy, advocacy strategy, and coalition building. They bring a strong understanding of the Florida political and policy landscape, demonstrated ability to monitor and analyze legislation, litigation, and regulatory activity, and a proven track record of developing and executing strategies to advance proactive policy goals while mitigating or defeating harmful policies. This role serves as Planned Parenthood of Florida’s primary point of contact with members of the state legislature, legislative and administration staff, and key policy partners, and plays a central role in building and maintaining trusted relationships with elected officials and allied organizations.
This position also leads the development and execution of a coordinated statewide public affairs plan that maximizes partner resources, aligns strategy across organizations, and strengthens grassroots and grasstops advocacy. The Vice President collaborates closely with organizing leadership to build broad-based support for policy initiatives and ensure advocacy efforts are informed by data, community engagement, and lived experience.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Vice President of Public Affairs is responsible for the management of programs and people within the Public Affairs department which encompasses Organizing, Policy, Advocacy, Data, and Operations. The Vice President leads planning and strategy development across all teams and supervises a team of directors to advance the interests of Planned Parenthood of Florida. This position collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, legislative agencies and other partner organizations to promote Planned Parenthood’s public policy, advocacy, and community engagement priorities including policy monitoring and analysis, education, strategy, and relationship building with elected officials. They monitor legislation, litigation, and regulations related to the mission and function of Planned Parenthood of Florida and advise on strategies to mitigate and/or defeat harmful policies. They serve as the organization’s primary contact with members of the state legislature, legislative and administration staffers, and policy experts across various organizations. They lead the development and execution of a coordinated state plan that maximizes the resources and effectiveness of all partners and reduces duplication of efforts in the areas of legislative affairs. They advise the organizing program to build grassroots support for policy initiatives.
The position requires seasonal travel to the state capitol in Tallahassee.
This position reports directly to the CEO/President.

- Lead Planned Parenthood of Florida’s public policy, organizing, data, advocacy, and operations teams to support the organizational mission and enable Planned Parenthood of Florida to achieve its long-term strategic goals.
- Strong staff management skills, including the ability to foster a culture of collaboration, support, mentoring, and consistent feedback.
- Superb interpersonal skills and a history of forging strong and positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across regulatory and administrative agencies.
- Partner closely with Planned Parenthood of Florida Senior Management team to understand the impact and significance of potential legislative or regulatory actions on Planned Parenthood of Florida’s current and future business model.
- Serve as an official spokesperson, representing Planned Parenthood of Florida in media, public forums, and community initiatives.
- Keep current with key policy, legislative, and regulatory developments affecting Planned Parenthood of Florida and its stakeholders.
- Prepare and deliver updates and briefings to internal stakeholders such as Senior Leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Ability to negotiate, build consensus, resolve conflicts, and strategically disagree.
- Ability to understand and synthesize data, using it to inform strategy and problem solve across diverse audiences.
- Proven record of developing and scaling innovative programs and campaigns with measurable impact.
- Collaborate with the Development department to create and execute fundraising strategies that support Public Affairs programs and activities, including direct engagement with donors and prospects.
- Participate in compliance program with all affiliate quality assurance standards and guidelines.
- Complete required onboarding training and curriculum for the position, in addition to other trainings deemed necessary, thereafter.
- Support PPFL in holding coworkers accountable and taking ownership of assigned tasks and work for the betterment of the department.
- Follow PPFL policy on disciplinary actions to assure accountability and ownership.
- Perform other various duties or special projects as assigned.
