Position Overview
As Controller, you will own the company's accounting and financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and timely insights to support business decisions. You will lead a small team while also remaining hands-on, particularly in the near term as processes are refined and improved. This role will play a critical part in cleaning up and optimizing accounting processes, reducing month-end close timelines, and leading an upcoming ERP implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage general ledger, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close (goal: reduce from ~15 days to 5 days)
- Oversee AP, AR, payroll, and cash management functions
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis in partnership with leadership
- Provide actionable financial insights to support strategic decision-making
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting processes
- Serve as primary liaison with external partners (CPA, payroll provider, HR partner, auditors)
- Support audit and tax processes
- Manage and develop a small accounting team (2 direct reports + international staff support)
- Oversee light HR administration in partnership with an external HR firm (Xenium)
- Participate in contract review and operational decision-making
- Lead or support ERP system implementation (planned for later this year)
- Leverage AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) to improve reporting, analysis, and efficiency
- Drive continuous process improvement across accounting and finance
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial controls
- Experience managing full-cycle accounting and financial reporting
- Hands-on leadership style with the ability to operate both strategically and tactically
- Experience with ERP systems (implementation experience a plus)
- Advanced Excel skills and strong technical aptitude
- Interest in or experience using AI tools to enhance productivity and insights
- Strong communication skills with the ability to partner cross-functionally
Team Structure
- Reports to: President/CEO
- Direct Reports: 2 (Accounting/Operations + Staff Accountant)
- Additional support: International accounting staff
