Job Description

Job Description

Join a USA Today Top Workplace!

At Morris Group, Inc., a third-generation, family-run leader in North American machine tool distribution, you’ll help manufacturers of precision parts sharpen their competitive edge through higher productivity and uptime.

A day in this role

You start from home, head straight to a customer site, and power up a Mazak or Okuma machining center that needs attention. You review electrical/pneumatic/hydraulic schematics, trace a PLC ladder diagram, and isolate a fault on a drive. By mid-morning, you’ve calibrated axes, verified alignments, and updated software. After lunch, you deliver operator training, network the machine to the plant systems, and enter case notes in Salesforce Lightning. On some days, you’ll commission a brand-new vertical machining center; on others, you’ll overhaul a spindle or perform a scheduled preventive maintenance service.

What you’ll do

  • Travel daily from home to customer facilities; occasional overnight hotel stays for remote customers or training within your assigned territory.
  • Install, commission, calibrate, maintain, diagnose, and repair CNC lathes, mills, and multi-function machining centers and their accessories.
  • Handle operator training, system networking, software applications, preventive maintenance, major assembly replacements and alignments, overhauls/refurbishments, upgrades/retrofits, and un-installation services.
  • Serve as the direct communication link between customers and the Service Group of the Robert E. Morris Company; capture and relay the voice of the customer.
  • Build brand loyalty through excellent service and strong customer relationships while working safely and continuously learning.
  • Use machine tool manuals, technical documentation, and both internal and external resources to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Effectively use the Salesforce Lightning Customer Support system to document and manage service activity.

What you bring

  • Clear verbal/written communication and customer relationship skills; professional presence in person and on the phone.
  • Adaptability in a changing environment; steady under delays or shifting priorities.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Interest or experience in electro-mechanics (motors, drives, transformers, VFDs); willing to build skills via classroom and on-the-job training.
  • Exposure to machine tool manufacturing, installation, operation, maintenance, or repair—and/or a broad shop background—is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, logical troubleshooting, and sound decision-making.
