Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a CVOR position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 2 years of CVOR experience and proficiency across cardiovascular and thoracic surgical specialties.

Details

  • Located in a hospital CVOR with 2 ORs, 20 Pre-Op bays, and 14 PACU bays
  • Patient population includes cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries: CABG, TAVR, valve replacements, robotic thoracic cases (lobectomy, hernia repair), generator exchanges, lead extractions, fem-pop bypass, open vascular cases, AAA, carotids, and conversions
  • 1:1 patient ratio in the OR
  • 12-hour variable shifts; specific shift length (8 or 10 hours) to be determined during interview
  • On-call required: one overnight per week (7p–7a) and every 3rd weekend (Friday 1500 to Monday 0700)
  • Weekend rotation is on-call only
  • Holiday coverage required with potential to work every holiday
  • May float to Main OR and Central Sterile Processing
  • EMR: Epic (required); also uses Omnicell and Alaris

Requirements

  • Active RN license from the South Dakota Board of Nursing or a Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of CVOR experience required
  • Level 1 or Level 2 trauma center experience required
  • Completion of a board of nursing-approved nursing education program
  • Strong CVOR background across all specialties with ability to work independently in: CABG, TAVR, valve replacements, robotic thoracic cases, generator exchanges, lead extractions, heart transplants, and fem-pop bypass
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration
  • Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

  • Operates under a '2 Tech' model with two OR techs per case — both scrub in for setup and draping, with one serving as primary tech and one providing supporting assistance
  • Full care team includes RN/First Assist/Surg Tech, Nurse Clinician, CRN, Service Line Leads (x2), HUC, Scheduler, Preference Card Analyst, OR Techs, and Anesthesia
  • Orientation consists of 5 eight-hour days
  • On-call staff have access to a sleep room in the Pre-Op/PACU area and couches in the break room; 15-minute response time is required
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility
  • Free parking is available on-site
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Former permanent staff must wait a full year before returning in a travel capacity
  • Time off requests require manager approval
