Our client, a major hospital system, is seeking an experienced Nurse Manager to lead its Emergency Department. This role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, age-appropriate patient care during all hours of unit operation, while fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and clinical excellence.
The Nurse Manager serves as a leader, mentor, and clinical resource to the care team, supporting optimal patient outcomes, staff engagement, and operational effectiveness. This position plays a critical role in promoting a supportive, just learning environment and advancing patient safety and experience initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the delivery of high-quality emergency and trauma care, ensuring compliance with clinical standards and National Patient Safety Goals
- Serve as a role model and clinical resource for patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team
- Communicate and collaborate effectively to foster an inclusive, team-oriented environment
- Oversee hiring, onboarding, performance management, coaching, and development of nursing staff
- Ensure staff competencies, certifications, and regulatory requirements are met
- Direct, assign, review, and evaluate work; manage corrective action processes as needed
- Monitor and manage departmental operating expenses, including productivity, overtime, and premium pay, in alignment with budgetary targets
- Champion the patient experience, relationship-centered care, and evidence-based practice
- Ensure payroll accuracy and staffing effectiveness to meet operational needs
- Act as a responsible steward of organizational resources
Qualifications
- BSN from a CCNE-accredited School of Nursing (required); MSN, MS, MA, MHA, or MBA preferred
- 5–7 years of nursing experience, with at least 5 years of progressive Emergency Department experience and demonstrated leadership responsibilities
- Active Maryland Registered Nurse (RN) License
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (AHA); additional certifications per unit guidelines
- National specialty certification preferred within one year of hire
