Meal Preparation & Service
- Assist with food preparation for daily meals, special diets, and special events as directed.
- Set up meal trays, food carts, and dining rooms according to resident needs and service schedules.
- Deliver food trays and carts to designated areas and serve meals in the dining room as instructed.
- Prepare and distribute snacks and nourishments according to resident care plans.
- Distribute and collect menus and communicate resident preferences or concerns to dietary staff.
Sanitation & Cleaning
- Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, and equipment following approved dishwashing and sanitation procedures.
- Clean work tables, preparation areas, refrigerators, freezers, and kitchen equipment.
- Sweep and mop floors and maintain clean, dry, and hazard‑free work areas.
- Remove food trays after meals and transport them to the dishwashing area.
- Handle trash, garbage, and soiled linens properly and transport them to designated areas.
- Follow all infection control, food safety, and sanitation regulations, including proper hand hygiene and PPE use.
Stocking & Supplies
- Obtain food and supplies needed for upcoming meals.
- Put away stock in proper labeled storage areas, ensuring items are dated and rotated according to FIFO guidelines.
- Monitor inventory levels and notify supervisory staff of shortages or supply needs.
- Ensure food, utensils, and supplies are readily available for each meal service.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Must be 16 or older to apply
- Previous dietary, food service, or healthcare experience preferred but not required.
- Experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing environment is a plus.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
- Strong attention to cleanliness, safety, and organization.
- Ability to treat residents with dignity, respect, and compassion.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 25–50 pounds (with or without accommodation).
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive tasks.
Working Conditions
- Fast‑paced kitchen and dining environment.
- Exposure to hot equipment, cleaning chemicals, and food preparation tools.
