Job Title: Metallurgist
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Plant Metallurgist to serve as the technical authority for metallic materials used in high‑performance, regulated manufacturing environments, including aerospace and defense applications. This role involves material qualification, metallurgical evaluation, testing oversight, failure analysis, and final technical disposition of material‑related issues throughout the product lifecycle. The Metallurgist has the authority to stop shipments or releases for material nonconformances and operates independently in a high‑accountability environment.
Responsibilities
- Own material qualification, control, and technical release of metallic materials.
- Perform technical review and approval of chemical, mechanical, and metallurgical test data.
- Serve as the primary technical interface with external testing laboratories.
- Define and approve testing methods, scopes, and acceptance criteria.
- Review customer contracts and specifications for material requirements and compliance.
- Conduct metallurgical evaluations, failure analysis, and root‑cause investigations.
- Provide technical disposition recommendations (use‑as‑is, rework, retest, scrap).
- Support material selection, alloy optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain material traceability, data integrity, and compliance with quality systems.
- Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits as required.
- Provide technical guidance and training to cross‑functional teams.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in metallurgy or material science, specifically in metals manufacturing.
- Strong failure analysis, problem‑solving, and technical decision‑making skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and technical documentation capability.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in regulated manufacturing environments strongly preferred.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Tipton, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $115000.00/yr.
