Under the direction of the practice manager, the Medical Assistant is responsible for rooming patients, recording vital signs and assisting providers with any and all requests related to pre and post operative patient care. Set up and cleaning of rooms, stocking room with essentials and notifying the practice manager of needed supplies. Must demonstrate good principles and practices of aseptic technique, knowledge of standard precautions and basic pharmacology. Prescription refills as directed by the provider. Accurately recording patient information in electronic health records including but not limited to height, weight, blood pressure, pulse all current medications (medication allergies). Coordinating patient appointments and managing the clinic schedule to include chart prep one week prior to the scheduled appointment (See separate addendum re: chart prep).
Essential Functions:
· Greets and registers patients when needed
· Updates patient accounts and information when needed
· Verify patient coverage for primary, secondary and tertiary when needed
· Collect patient payments when needed
· Ensure all necessary paperwork and records are ready for patient appointments
· Collaborate with the patient care coordinator regarding scheduling of patients
· Answer multi line phones, ensures that messages are retrieved and given to appropriate staff and communicates with the answering service when needed
· Keeps information confidential and maintains a HIPAA secure environment
Required Qualification, Knowledge and Ability:
· Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the United States
· High School diploma or equivalent
· Ability to relate and work effectively with others
· Demonstrated computer skills in utilizing word processing, integrated database and other functions.
· Demonstrated ability to utilize and understand mathematical calculations
· Three years medical experience
· Understanding and utilizing medical terminology accurately
· Basic knowledge of human anatomy
· Effective communication skills to interact with patients, explaining procedures and addressing concerns
· Ability to use medical equipment such as blood pressure monitors
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience working in surgical clinic preferred. Certification preferred
