Job - Manufacturing Tech Specialist, Proc/Prod 37
Location: Santa Rosa, CA - Onsite
Duration: 12 Months
Role Overview:
This is a hands-on manufacturing role focused on precision machining and process support.
You will work closely with engineers and machinists to develop, optimize, and troubleshoot machining processes for high-precision components.
The role serves as a bridge between:
- Process Engineering (designing how parts are manufactured)
- Shop Floor Operations (actual production of parts)
Key Responsibilities
Process Development & Setup
- Assist engineers in developing machining processes
- Support machine setup and initial production runs (prove-outs, first articles)
- Help transition new product introduction (NPI) jobs into stable production
Shop Floor Support
- Maintain strong presence on the shop floor
- Support machinists in real-time troubleshooting, including:
- Tool wear
- Machine offsets
- Fixturing issues
- Program errors
Testing & Optimization
- Execute trial runs and document results such as cycle time, yield, and process capability
- Identify opportunities to improve setup time, production speed, and product quality
Troubleshooting & Problem Solving
- Diagnose and resolve machining/process issues efficiently
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Quality, and Operations
Documentation & Process Control
- Create and update setup sheets, work instructions, and process documentation
- Ensure adherence to established processes on the shop floor
Inspection & Quality Support
- Assist with inspection methods using tools like:
- CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine)
- Optical systems
- Keyence equipment
- Support data collection and process validation
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for automation and process simplification
- Analyze production data to improve yield and efficiency
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years in precision machining (Swiss, CNC milling, or WEDM)
- Strong hands-on experience with machine setup and troubleshooting
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T
- Experience with tight-tolerance machining (micron-level preferred)
- Familiarity with inspection equipment (CMM, optical systems)
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting process development environments
- Knowledge of CAM systems (NX, ESPRIT, or similar)
- Experience with high-mix, low-volume or R&D environments
- Understanding of process capability, yield improvement, and root cause analysis
- Familiarity with MES/ERP systems (Opcenter, Oracle)
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate degree or technical certification preferred)
