Job Description

The Pharmacy Clerk accurately and efficiently fills prescription requests in a high-volume, fast-paced production environment under the supervision of a Pharmacist. This role prepares, packages, sorts, and distributes medications while maintaining a continuous workflow to meet daily production goals. The Pharmacy Clerk works both independently and as part of a team, ensuring patient safety, privacy, and quality in every step of the prescription fulfillment process.

Responsibilities

  • Manually fill prescription vials with prescribed tablets and capsules, ensuring accuracy in medication type, strength, and quantity.
  • Retrieve and process Unit of Use and bulk medication items from labeled shelves according to computer-generated orders.
  • Read and interpret computer-generated screens to locate indicated medications, verifying product size and strength before filling orders.
  • Replenish medications in automated dispensing cells to full capacity, opening and handling large quantities of bottles and cases of product.
  • Use basic mathematical reasoning to count or calculate the appropriate number of units needed to fill prescriptions accurately.
  • Operate handheld scanner units to scan product barcodes for replenishment and inventory control.
  • Demonstrate effective problem resolution skills by recognizing issues, addressing them when appropriate, and escalating concerns as needed.
  • Maintain focus and strong attention to detail while performing repetitive tasks, ensuring absolute accuracy in all prescription fills.
  • Keep the pharmacy floor clean, organized, and in orderly condition to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Understand and comply with federal and state HIPAA laws and pharmacy standard procedures to protect patient safety and privacy.
  • Process orders for shipping, including folding and packing paperwork, packaging prescriptions, and attaching shipping documentation or labels.
  • Support pharmacy operations such as medication packing, specialty medication cooler preparation, order entry, data entry, and medication refills as needed.
  • Provide administrative and pharmacy support, including filing, inventory support, and general clerical tasks.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy technicians and other team members to ensure timely, accurate, and quality-focused prescription fulfillment.
  • Use computer systems, including Microsoft Office applications, for order processing, documentation, and communication.
  • Exhibit strong customer service and interpersonal skills when working with team members in a dynamic production environment.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and consistently carry 20–30 lbs of merchandise.
  • Ability to select and lift objects from shelves and carry them to the order filling line.
  • Ability to stand and walk continuously for an 8-hour shift.
  • Ability to perform frequent bending, twisting, reaching, grasping, and pinching during the shift.
  • Basic math, reading, and writing skills sufficient to count, calculate units, and follow written instructions.
  • Visual acuity to read computer screens, handheld scanners, and medication labels accurately.
  • Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail while performing repetitive tasks in a production environment.
  • Understanding of and adherence to federal and state HIPAA regulations and pharmacy procedures.
  • Good computer skills, including comfort working with pharmacy systems and data entry.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of pharmacy operations and professional standards.
  • Experience in micro-fulfillment, mail-order, or similar high-volume pharmacy environments is a plus.
  • Experience with pharmacy support functions such as order entry, data entry, medication refills, and logistics.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy technician responsibilities and customer service in a healthcare or pharmacy setting.
  • Pharmacy technician certification is a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook, and comfort with Excel data entry.
  • Experience working in cleanroom or controlled environments is beneficial.
  • Strong administrative support and clerical skills, including filing and record maintenance.
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality-focused work habits.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to exhibit professional customer service with team members.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and handle adversity and ambiguity well in a constantly changing production environment.

Work Environment

This is an onsite position based in Lake Mary, FL, working in a climate-controlled pharmacy production environment. The role involves continuous standing and walking for most of the 8-hour shift, along with frequent lifting, bending, reaching, grasping, and handling of medication bottles, cases, and packaging materials. The work setting includes the use of pharmacy automation equipment, handheld scanners, computer systems, and standard office software. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with shifts potentially falling between 3:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Hours of operation currently run from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and may change based on business needs. The position includes a typically scheduled 30-minute lunch break and two 15-minute breaks, which are not flexible and are assigned as part of the shift. Equipment such as a laptop and headset is provided to support job duties. The environment emphasizes accuracy, quality, teamwork, and adherence to pharmacy standards and patient privacy requirements.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
