Quality Engineer
Position Overview
This role provides quality engineering leadership to support workplace safety, new product launches, process improvements, and ongoing problem-solving efforts. The Quality Engineer serves as a technical expert to resolve issues that affect product quality and overall customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the Quality Management System (QMS) within assigned production areas
- Develop and implement inspection methods and quality plans to enhance product quality while improving operational efficiency
- Create and maintain control plans and documentation in alignment with AIAG APQP standards
- Perform process capability studies and measurement system analysis (MSA) and develop visual tools to support quality evaluations
- Conduct audits of products and processes to ensure compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements
- Analyze quality metrics, trends, and performance data; communicate findings and drive improvements
- Evaluate and disposition nonconforming materials and initiate corrective actions as needed
- Lead and participate in efforts to reduce variation and eliminate waste through continuous improvement initiatives
- Serve as a primary contact for customer quality interactions, including:
- PPAP submissions
- Corrective action responses
- Warranty-related reviews
- Support customer audits and interpret customer-specific requirements
- Apply structured problem-solving methods to identify root causes of quality issues and implement immediate containment measures
- Lead cross-functional teams in developing and executing permanent corrective actions
- Support new product development and engineering changes, including risk assessments and validation activities
- Collaborate on the development of new or revised products, processes, and specifications to meet quality objectives
- Deliver training to employees on quality standards, processes, and tools as needed
- Work closely with supplier quality teams to manage and contain incoming material quality issues, preventing impact to customers
Required Skills & Competencies
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949 standards
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, including GD&T
- Strong understanding of:
- APQP, PPAP, Control Plans, FMEA
- MSA and SPC methodologies
- Experience with root cause analysis and structured problem-solving tools (8D)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Minitab preferred
- Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP preferred)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing quality role
- Experience in industrial, electrical, or HVAC environments is preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) certification
- Internal auditor certification (ISO 9001 / IATF preferred)
- Background in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies
