Educational Assistant / Paraprofessional Chimayo, NM (K-12)

A full-time Educational Assistant/Paraprofessional opportunity is available to support students with profound behavioral, functional, and adaptive needs in inclusion classrooms and resource/learning centers. This role is designed to assist elementary, middle, and high school students, with current focus at the high school and elementary levels serving students with severe disabilities and behavioral challenges.

Position Details:

  • Duration: August 5, 2025 May 29, 2026 (Contract)
  • Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week
  • Location: Chimayo, New Mexico
  • Multiple positions available due to ongoing need

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with a range of severe disabilities in classroom and resource settings
  • Assist teachers in managing behavior and implementing adaptive strategies
  • Facilitate learning and motivation by employing effective instructional and behavioral techniques
  • Help students with foundational skills such as letter recognition and sound identification
  • De-escalate challenging behaviors during instructional time
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and participate in ongoing training programs (e.g., CPI, Braille)

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • High school diploma required
  • Experience working with children who have disabilities or behavioral challenges
  • Previous classroom experience preferred
  • Valid New Mexico drivers license
  • Educational Assistant license or Substitute Teacher license (ability to obtain while working is acceptable)
  • CPR and First Aid certification is a plus
  • Willingness to engage in additional trainings to enhance skills
