The Straz Center for the Performing Arts is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This role is responsible for supporting the full-cycle accounting process, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced nonprofit environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Journalize, in accordance with GAAP principles:
    • All daily sales for food & beverage, retail, ticket sales, and education operations
    • In-kind donations, intercompany credits, and education event settlements
  • Oversee inventory accounting for Food & Beverage and Retail departments, ensuring accurate reporting, reconciliation, and valuation
  • Prepare and remit sales tax to the State of Florida in compliance with regulations
  • Manage and reconcile purchasing card receipts, ensuring timely submission, accuracy, and proper coding
  • Perform general ledger reconciliations and ensure accurate recording of transactions for balance sheet accounts
  • Process all accounts receivable functions, including invoice generation and collections
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Reconcile bank statements and credit card transactions
  • Provide audit support by gathering required documentation
  • Collaborate with internal departments and implement process improvements for efficiency

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP functions
  • Understanding of GAAP principles and financial reporting
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience; nonprofit experience preferred
  • Proficiency in accounting software (experience with Blackbaud, Tessitura, or Navision is a plus)
