Job Description
Our church is currently seeking a Bookkeeper to join our team. You will be responsible for the management of all monies and statements within the life of our church. You will post contributions and send giving statements, manage payroll, taxes and payables. You will work closely with the Church Finance Committee and the Church Treasurer. This position is an in-office position, Monday-Thursday, 8 am to 2 pm. A background and reference check will be conducted.
Responsibilities:
- Follow established bookkeeping procedures
- Maintain general ledger, update journal entries
- Post and maintain accounting ledgers
- Maintain internal control systems
- Enter member contributions and maintain giving records
- Reconcile bank statements and financial accounts
- Research, code, and obtain approval for all invoices
- Generate required monthly reports and quarterly/annual giving reports
- Provide monthly revenue and expenses with budget status
- Prepare and post payroll, track overtime and time off
- Maintain insurance records, facilitate renewals, produce annual payroll audits
- Use Excel to assist Finance Committee to develop and monitor the budget
- Prepare, file, and pay all state and federal taxes
- Maintain employee files and records
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years experience with formal accounting training (knowledge of GAAP)
- Mastery of standard accounting software and proficient in Excel
- Excellent written and spoken communication
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Ability to prioritize and multitask
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to meet deadlines
