A well-established construction company based in Melville, NY, seeking a hands-on Bookkeeper to step into an active and fast-moving environment. This role requires someone comfortable taking ownership of day-to-day bookkeeping, cleaning up accounts where needed, and working closely with operations.
Construction industry experience is strongly preferred.
This is an in-office role Monday-Friday 8AM-4PM requiring attention to detail, accountability, and the confidence to handle pressure.
Key Responsibilities
- Full-cycle bookkeeping using QuickBooks Online
- Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Job-related expensing and cost tracking
- Bank and credit card reconciliations
- Sales tax calculation, filing, and compliance (required)
- Payroll and payroll reconciliation
- Work closely with operations using ServiceFusion
- Maintain accurate financial records and support ongoing clean-up or correction work as needed
- Assist ownership/management with ad hoc financial reporting and requests
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of bookkeeping experience (construction or service-based industry preferred)
- Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online
- Solid understanding of sales tax requirements (required)
- Experience with bank and credit card reconciliations
- Payroll reconciliation experience
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, sometimes high-pressure environment
- Thick skin and ability to step into an existing situation and bring order
- High attention to detail and follow-through
- In-office availability during scheduled hours
