POSITION SUMMARY:


The YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina is seeking a passionate Associate Director to lead Afterschool and Summer Camp programs in Brunswick County and create meaningful experiences for children and families. This role provides hands-on leadership for program quality, staff development, and daily operations while serving as a trusted partner to families, schools, and community stakeholders. The Associate Director fosters collaboration across teams and departments to deliver a unified, member-first experience that brings the YMCA mission and values to life.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Implement YMCA curriculum through engaging daily activities that support child development, safety, and belonging.
  • Observe and assess children consistently to meet individual needs and maintain high program quality.
  • Communicate regularly with families, including behavior updates, conferences, and opportunities for involvement.
  • Manage daily site operations, administrative tasks, and customer service with professionalism and care.
  • Maintain accurate program records, including attendance, incidents, behavior reports, and CACFP/SFSP documentation.
  • Supervise, schedule, and support afterschool and summer camp staff to ensure proper ratios, budget alignment, and policy compliance.
  • Train new staff and model YMCA standards, policies, and best practices.
  • Support program planning and organizational goals in partnership with the Director.
  • Build strong relationships with schools and community partners and represent the YMCA at meetings and events.
  • Visit and monitor Brunswick County sites to ensure safe, effective, and consistent program operations.

Requirements:


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership role within a similar organization.
  • Strong understanding of program management and organizational development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certification within 30 days of hire date.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

YMCA SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
CPR & First Aid – Must be able to complete and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid; able to assist individuals in need until professional help arrives.

Emergency Response – Ability to quickly identify emergency situations (medical, fire, environmental, etc.) and respond appropriately following established procedures.

Incident Management – Required to report all safety incidents and hazards immediately and accurately to supervisors.

Safe Environment – Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment for all staff, members, and participants.

Physical Readiness – Must be able to perform physical tasks related to safety, including assisting individuals of various ages and physical abilities.

Compliance – Follow all YMCA safety protocols, OSHA standards, and state/local regulations as applicable.
