Position Overview:
As an HVAC and Sheet Metal CAD Drafter/Designer, you will play a critical role in producing precise and accurate HVAC and sheet metal layout drawings for commercial construction projects. You will work closely with engineers, project managers, and field teams to ensure the design is aligned with project goals and meets industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:

Design & Drafting: Create detailed HVAC and sheet metal layout drawings for commercial construction projects using AutoCAD, with the option to use Revit or other BIM software.

Blueprint Interpretation: Interpret mechanical engineering designs, architectural plans, and specifications to produce accurate ductwork and ventilation system drawings.

Shop & Fabrication Drawings: Develop shop and fabrication drawings for sheet metal components, ensuring they are constructible and compliant with SMACNA (Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association) standards.

Coordination & Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, mechanical engineers, and field supervisors to ensure design accuracy and alignment with project goals.

Redline Revisions: Incorporate feedback and redlines from engineers and construction personnel into updated drawings.

As-Built Drawings: Prepare as-built drawings upon project completion, documenting any field modifications or adjustments made during installation.

Field Integration: Work in tandem with fabrication and installation teams to ensure the designs are effectively translated into the field.

Clash Detection: Perform clash detection to identify and resolve conflicts between HVAC systems and other trades, such as electrical, plumbing, or structural elements.

File Organization: Maintain organized CAD files and adhere to drafting and file-naming standards to ensure project documentation is accurate and accessible.

Industry Knowledge: Stay up-to-date with relevant codes, materials, and best practices for HVAC drafting in commercial construction.
Qualifications:

Proficiency in AutoCAD, with experience in Revit or other BIM software being a plus.

Solid understanding of HVAC systems, sheet metal fabrication, and commercial construction processes.

Experience creating ductwork and ventilation system drawings for commercial projects.

Familiarity with SMACNA standards and HVAC design best practices.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with precision.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with project teams.

Experience in clash detection and resolving conflicts between different trades is highly desirable.

Ability to adapt to redlines and revisions quickly, ensuring accurate final drawings.

Knowledge of relevant building codes and regulations in commercial construction.

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:

Associate's degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field.

3+ years of experience in HVAC and sheet metal drafting/design.

Familiarity with building information modeling (BIM) software.

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically about design challenges.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to work in an office environment, with occasional site visits to construction locations.

Comfortable with extended hours on occasion to meet project deadlines.
