Job Summary:
We are seeking a strategic and technically accomplished Corporate Tooling Manager to lead the enterprise-wide tooling strategy for a large proprietary product design, engineering, and injection molding organization. This role combines deep expertise in mold and tooling engineering with the leadership and business acumen required to standardize practices, optimize tooling investments, and drive performance across multiple facilities. The successful candidate will serve as both a technical authority and organizational change leader, ensuring tooling excellence that directly supports product quality, cost efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead the enterprise tooling strategy, standardizing mold design, build, and maintenance practices across all facilities.
- Oversee all new mold builds and repairs, ensuring compliance with corporate standards, design specifications, and quality requirements.
- Develop and implement robust preventive and predictive maintenance schedules that extend mold lifecycle and minimize downtime.
- Maintain and continuously improve a centralized tooling asset management system to track conditions, utilization, and total cost of ownership.
- Establish, qualify, and manage relationships with tooling vendors, focusing on performance, cost, innovation, and long-term partnership value.
- Act as the central point of contact for tooling-related standards, technical issues, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, production, supply chain, and maintenance leaders to align tooling priorities with business goals.
- Audit mold and tooling performance across facilities, identifying recurring issues and implementing corrective actions at scale.
- Drive cross-facility training, coaching, and mentoring to ensure consistent tooling care, handling, and documentation practices.
- Influence senior leadership on tooling investment strategies, ensuring ROI-based decision-making and alignment with growth objectives.
- Ensure all tooling operations meet or exceed safety, quality, and operational excellence standards.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in mold/tooling engineering with responsibility for multi-site tooling programs in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Strong expertise in mold design, tool steel selection, injection molding processes, and preventative/predictive maintenance best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to build and manage strategic vendor partnerships, including quoting, validation, repairs, and technology adoption.
- Experience implementing and managing tooling lifecycle systems (ERP, MES, or CMMS integration preferred).
- Proven ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams across sites without direct authority.
- Strong business acumen with experience in cost analysis, ROI evaluations, and strategic decision-making.
- Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to lead change and drive standardization.
- Track record of developing and mentoring technical personnel, building bench strength across multiple facilities.
- Willingness to travel to vendor and plant locations as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Tooling Technology, or a related field preferred.
