The NEW Community Clinic is a local nonprofit community clinic that has three dental clinics, two medical clinics, a WIC location and a behavioral health clinic. The Registered Dietitian will provide evidence-based nutritional care and education to individuals in a behavioral health setting, addressing the unique dietary needs associated with mental health conditions. By collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, the Registered Dietitian supports treatment plans to improve client's mental and physical wellbeing and enhance to overall quality of life.
Job responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments, including screening for and addressing co-occurring mental health conditions, substance-related deficiencies, medication side effects, and disordered eating behaviors (i.e., anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating disorder).
- Develop individualized nutrition/meal plans and interventions tailored to support diagnosis-specific nutritional needs, taking into consideration substance use history and co-occurring mental health conditions.
- Identify minimum biological appropriate weight as appropriate for client treatment, assess nutritional status and medical stability, conduct weight and vital checks, provide nutritional prescriptions and physical activity plans, and provide exposure-based interventions as appropriate.
- Coordinate with prescribers and primary care providers for ordering and interpreting lab results.
- Assist in completing behavioral health pre-screens for inquiring clients.
- Provide individual and group nutritional education sessions, focusing on topics like balanced diets, mindful eating, managing nutritional deficiencies, and more.
- Educate clients, families and staff about the role of nutrition in mental health recovery.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all treatment services provided and identifies billable nutritional diagnoses with supporting documentation.
Experience/Education requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field from an accredited program
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year clinical experience (preferred)
- Expertise: Advanced knowledge in clinical nutrition as it relates to mental health diagnoses, specifically eating disorders Knowledge of HAES, anti-diet, and intuitive eating approaches. Ability to respond to the needs of a diverse patient population. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organization, decision-making, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Language: Comprehend and use basic English language either written or spoken to communicate information and ideals. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
- Hours to work: PRN- flexible
Required Credentials, Certification, Licensure
- Dietitian certification issued by the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR)
- Certification by the Department of Safety and Professional Services (WI only)
