JOB OVERVIEW:

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work well with outside sources. Must understand the operation, policies and procedures of Wayne Townshi0p Trustee Office an Indiana Township Association Law, and their purpose. Must have thorough knowledge of WTTO eligibility standards.



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Dependable, honest, flexible, compassionate, and respectful of others.
  • A/B.S. in Communications, Public Relations, Supervision, or a related field preferred. Equivalent work experience is acceptable.
  • 10+ years of experience in communications or public relations.
  • Understand the operation, policies and procedures of Wayne Township Trustee Office and Indiana Township Association Law, and their purpose. Thorough knowledge of WTTO eligibility standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to tactfully interact with people with diverse cultural, financial, and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to complete work without supervision.
  • Ability to understand the operation, policies and procedures of Wayne Township Trustee Office and Indiana Township Association Law, and their purpose.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment.
  • Experience in word processing and messaging systems.
  • Excellent training skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to understand the operation, policies and procedures of the Wayne Township Trustee Office, Eligibility Standards and Township Law.
  • Knowledge of the operation, policies, and procedures of the Wayne Township Trustee Office (WTTO) Eligibility Standards and Township Law preferred.
  • Supervisory skills preferred.
  • Valid Indiana drivers license.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide direction and assistance to departmental staff and ensure they are properly trained. Ensure staff and Director of Communications follow the WTTO and Indiana Township Association policies and procedures. Ensure efficient use of Township dollars. Follow WTTO Accounting procedures for purchases.
  • Serve as public information officer.
  • Assist the Trustee and Deputy Trustee.
  • Adhere to, and promote Wayne Township Trustee Office purpose, philosophy, policies, procedures and program objectives.
  • Fill in as needed in other departmental positions.
  • Represent WTTO with professional and compassionate delivery of social services.
  • Fully utilize the WTTO software applications.
  • Maintain a good working relationship, and an excellent understanding of utility, faith-based, and social service agencies/organizations, and the services they provide.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Respond to media questions as directed by the Trustee, and Deputy Trustee.
  • Draft and clear news releases as directed by the Trustee, and Deputy Trustee.
  • Establish and maintain contacts within media outlets. Draft and clear newspaper columns (such as the Waynedale News, Fort Wayne Ink Spot, etc.) and provide them to the appropriate media outlets.
  • Update and monitor the WTTO Website
  • Assist with release of information requests.
  • Attend community meetings related to our targeted population (civic, social, governmental, informational, and economic).
  • Assist with creation and updating of organizational structure charts, as requested by the Trustee, Deputy Trustee, or HR Director.
  • Monitor Special Programs/Projects. Setup meetings to discuss high profile programs and projects such as: Update of WTTO Standards, Great American Cleanup, Parades (Waynedale Memorial Day, 3 Rivers), Picnics (Union Labor Day, Waynedale), RAS Scholarship, Holiday Celebration, Christmas Bureau, Voucher giveaway during holiday season.
  • Perform research regarding applicable township statutes. Assist with Standards training for staff.
  • Represent WTTO at denial appeal hearings.
  • Adhere to, and promote Wayne Township Trustee Office purpose, philosophy, policies, procedures and program objectives.
  • Inform the Trustee of any concerns/issues/problems and suggestions concerning staff, clients, and agencies.
  • Complete tasks as assigned by the Trustee, Deputy Trustee, and HR Director.
  • Assist in preparation of documents for Board meetings.
  • Cross train in other areas. Attend Board meetings as requested by the Trustee.
  • Provide reports to the Trustee and to the accounting area, as assigned by the Trustee and Deputy Trustee.
  • Complete tasks/duties as assigned by the Trustee and Deputy Trustee.
  • Prioritize and assign work and tasks.
  • Monitor Outlook messages multiple times daily. Reply as needed or requested.
  • Perform home inspections and visits for homebound clients, as needed.
