Position Summary
Sr. Consultant - MFG Plant Process Improvement Expert (PPS) will be responsible for driving shop floor process improvements for VSEs clients and their facilities. The scope will mainly cover driving improvements to a customer's top internal quality losses. It may also cover throughput performance loss improvements as well as lean manufacturing initiatives to support the achievement of customer goals and objectives.

The (PPS) will be a plant process expert able to support hourly and salary staff at the customers assembly plant. This position is intended to be the plant focal point for driving problem solving for Systemic Quality Issues that have root causes related to repetitive Human errors, lack of standardized work, process / method / control weaknesses and risks from improper workstation setup. Problem solving must include root cause validation, corrective actions (containment, and permanent) and measurement to ensure sustainment. The PPS will assist in prioritizing Top Issues, assign Projects (i.e. Kaizens, DMAICs) and develop and execute Continuous Improvement activities utilizing Lean, Quality Controls, PFMEA, Error & Mistake proofing, and other Methods/Tools. The PPS will simultaneously lead problem solving on specific issues and coach/mentor other customer problem solvers to further develop their skills and knowledge (in problem solving methodologies / tools). You will work with cross-functional team members to successfully complete these initiatives. Additionally, you will support targeted activities in support of the plant improving their KPI performance: including but not limited to; lessons learned, process mapping, Workshops and identifying and eliminating barriers to quality improvement.

This PPS will become knowledgeable in supporting the problems occurring within a plants Assembly Process (i.e. Body, Trim, Chassis, Final, and Repair) and experienced with carry-over plants and launching plants. The PPS will support the plant and corporate cross-functional team during new vehicle launches (New Vehicles/MCAs) and may utilize the Proactive & Preventative methods & tools to reduce risk. Furthermore, the PPS will build effective relationships with key individuals within critical departments (Customer and VSE) that are required to ensure the Project / Engagement is successful and to ensure weekly progress is sustained.

We are seeking highly skilled Continuous Improvement Senior Specialists that have automotive assembly expertise in one or more of the areas listed in the table below.

Sr. Consultant - MFG Plant Process Improvement Expert (PPS) - Area of Expertise | Problem Solving Knowledge Required:

  • Vehicle Assembly Process / Quality Control | Process & Station optimization, Robust Controls, prevention of Wrong / Loose / Shy defect creation and release.
  • PFMEA, and other Risk Assessments. Andon, Standardized work, Job Element Sheets, Quality Control & Inspection.
  • In-system Damage (Dents & Scratches) | ISD source station identification, Containment and Permanent Actions.
  • Preventative Risk Assessments
  • Lean Manufacturing | Workplace organization, 5S, workstation waste identification and efficiency improvements, Visual Management, Kaizen, DMAIC, Theory of constraints and throughput improvement project experience

The PPS will provide service at the plant (onsite) and integrate themselves into the customer plant to work closely with both salaried and hourly personnel. In addition, they will develop a close working relationship with all critical customer groups (i.e. plant production, plant quality teams, and corporate teams) to ensure that VSE obtains the required support, and that the customer recognizes the benefits from VSE support. In addition, the annual Goals of the PPS will be aligned with the assembly plants goals for driving improvement in critical KPIs monthly. They will become an active team member for identifying Top Systemic Issues, Top Zones, & Top Stations and a participant in the Plants Problem Solving Process and Status Meetings (Tracking action and measuring results).

In summary, the PPS is a VSE Leader at the assembly plant to ensure the Problem Solving Activities provided generate substantial benefit/value to the customer and their plant, by: 1) Increasing the number of systemic issues resolved via advanced problem solving projects and Robust Solutions; 2) Driving sustained improvements in the plants KPIs; 3) Increasing units shipped (daily) without offline repairs needed; 4) The development of the customers internal problems solvers with the capability for to sustain KPI performance independently.

Position Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Technical Degree or other degrees (in combination with relevant experience may be considered)
  • Previous experience working at and/or providing significant support to automotive assembly plants
  • Previous experience in Continuous Improvement and Problem-Solving Methodologies and Tools for a minimum of 10 years. In-depth practical knowledge of Kaizen and/or Lean methodologies, tools, and practices including visual controls, standard work, performance metrics, work center metrics, and continuous improvement processes with a demonstrated ability to instruct others in these areas.
  • Ability to coach and assist participants in improvement activities
  • Well versed in office computer systems / applications (i.e. Microsoft 365)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Fluent in English - Written & Verbal

Preferred

  • OEM product engineering and quality improvement experience
  • 15 years of experience in Manufacturing, Automotive Industry, Tier 1 or OEM Assembly Plant
  • Experience in improving assembly processes, new launches, PFMEA, and Proactive/Preventative tools
  • Good leadership presence with the ability to work with Plant management and Plant Floor personnel.
  • Self-motivated and ability to thrive in a high intensity environment while working on multiple projects
