A registered nurse with specialized skills in stepdown care is sought for a 13-week contract position in Canfield, OH. This role focuses on providing intermediate-level care to adult and geriatric patients with neuro and cardiac conditions, including stroke and multi-system organ failure, in an 8-bed neuro stepdown unit and a 32-bed progressive care setting. Night shift availability for 12-hour shifts is required.
Responsibilities include conducting patient assessments, developing and implementing care plans, administering medications safely, coordinating care across departments, advocating for patient safety and quality of life, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. The nurse will manage complex cases involving cardiac drips, dysrhythmias, and advanced respiratory modalities while maintaining compliance with clinical guidelines and facility policies.
Desired qualifications and experience:
- Current registered nurse license in the applicable state or compact license
- Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
- Dysrhythmia exam required (study guide available)
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience; 6 months in acute care preferred
- Neuro/stroke experience highly preferred
- EPIC Electronic Health Record training preferred
- Critical Care and Progressive Care certifications (CCRN, PCCN) advantageous
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
- Strong clinical judgement, communication, and patient advocacy skills
The working environment involves periods of high stress, physical demands including lifting and standing, and exposure to infectious materials requiring universal precautions. Ratio goals are approximately 1:4 for neuro patients but may vary with staffing.
