Job Title: Mechanical Designer
Job Description
This position supports design initiatives for Virginia Class model file conversions. The candidate will convert 3D models into the Siemens NX application, including setting up construction views. All trade disciplines are involved in this effort. The role involves designing components or portions of systems, modifying existing designs to develop or improve products, and facilitating manufacturing operations. The designer will utilize computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as AutoCAD, NX, and Inventor, gather information, conduct studies, compute calculations, and prepare original rough layouts and sketches to present design proposals. They will also coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups, focusing on ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.
Responsibilities
- Convert 3D models into the Siemens NX application, setting up construction views.
- Design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs.
- Utilize computer-aided design equipment and graphic tools such as AutoCAD, NX, and Inventor.
- Gather information, conduct studies, compute calculations, and prepare original rough layouts and sketches.
- Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in design, drafting, and CAD.
- Experience in electrical, mechanical, and piping design.
- Familiarity with Inventor, AutoCAD, NX, Catia.
- Experience in shipyard, shipboard, marine, submarine, mechanical design, electrical design, HVAC design.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- US Citizenship required.
- Associate’s Degree and 1 year of experience or additional experience in lieu of degree.
- Siemens NX and/or Inventor modeling experience preferred.
- Experience in manufacturing/installation drawing creation.
- Trade experience using 3D work instructions in areas such as Structure, Electrical, Piping, Mechanical, Ventilation, Sheetmetal.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Newport News, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $50.00/hr.
