Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field, active Deaf & Hard of Hearing (DHH) certification, and 1+ years Deaf & Hard of Hearing Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A full-time position is available for a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist to support a preschool student with sensorineural hearing loss in both ears for the 2025-2026 school year. This role is based in the Washington Navy Yard, DC, and is part of an early childhood school setting. The contract runs for the current school year (CSY).
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction and support tailored to a young child with sensorineural hearing loss.
- Utilize American Sign Language (ASL) fluently to municate and engage effectively with the student.
- Develop and implement individualized educational plans to promote language development and academic progress.
- Collaborate with families, educators, and support staff to ensure a cohesive educational experience.
- Monitor and assess the students progress, adjusting strategies as needed to meet evolving needs.
Qualifications:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is mandatory.
- Experience working with preschool-aged children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Knowledge of early childhood education principles and practices.
- Strong munication and teamwork skills to coordinate with a multidisciplinary team.
