Job Description
The Site Superintendent oversees day-to-day construction and quality control activities for utility-scale solar generation projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. This role requires an experienced, well-organized construction professional who can lead field operations, coordinate subcontractors, and collaborate closely with project management and engineering teams while maintaining a strong on-site presence.
Responsibilities
- Lead on-site construction activities for solar generation systems, maintaining a consistent daily presence on the solar farm.
- Run quality control operations on solar farm projects in Pittsville and Woodstock, MD, ensuring all work meets project specifications and standards.
- Attend site walks and pre-construction planning meetings with construction management, project management, and engineering teams as required.
- Manage and maintain the construction schedule, providing daily updates and documentation through Procore and other reporting tools.
- Communicate regularly with the construction manager regarding project safety, quality, and subcontractor performance.
- Set clear goals for subcontractors in coordination with the construction manager, and actively motivate and manage teams to keep work on task.
- Attend all First Article Inspections (FAI) and take the lead when the construction manager is not available.
- Perform QA/QC inspections in coordination with quality management, maintaining an accurate daily inspection log throughout all project phases.
- Conduct SWPPP (Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan) inspections as required, and promptly report any deficiencies to construction and project management.
- Participate in weekly subcontractor calls and other project meetings as requested to support coordination and progress.
- Coordinate delivery of materials and equipment to maximize job efficiency and minimize delays.
- Inspect all delivered equipment, collect and upload related documentation, and report any deficiencies or missing components to the construction manager.
- Coordinate daily with subcontractors and initiate technical or design questions through the RFI system in collaboration with the construction manager.
- Provide feedback and creative problem-solving input to project team members, contributing to continuous improvement of processes and outcomes.
- Adhere to established safety standards and installation best practices at all times.
- Take responsibility for the safety of all crew members, proactively addressing unsafe conditions and enforcing compliance with safety requirements.
- Travel to project sites outside the primary territory when needed to support construction and quality control activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure successful project delivery.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 3+ years of experience as a solar superintendent or in construction supervision.
- At least 3+ years of electrical or mechanical background in construction or related fields.
- 3+ years of experience as a site superintendent or equivalent role in the solar industry.
- Strong knowledge of electrical construction and electrical components relevant to solar installations.
- Experience with mechanical, civil, and electrical aspects of solar array installation, including racking systems.
- Ability to assess quality installations with strong attention to detail and thorough inspection skills.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, and contract exhibits.
- Construction safety awareness and comprehension, including risk assessment and management.
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to lead and coordinate a diverse group of individuals on site.
- Strong organization and time management skills, with proven ability to prioritize and schedule work effectively.
- Disciplined, self-motivated work style with the ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member.
- Problem-solving skills to identify, analyze, research, evaluate, and resolve construction and quality issues.
- Conflict management skills and industrial relations knowledge to recognize and resolve potential labor issues.
- Proficiency in operating a computer and laptop, with the ability to learn and use new software.
- Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and scheduling software.
- Strong technology background and comfort with digital tools and documentation platforms such as Procore.
- Valid driver’s license and eligibility for corporate vehicle insurance.
- OSHA 10 certification (required).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in construction management, project management, and supervision within solar or related industries.
- Familiarity with NEC (National Electrical Code) and its application to solar projects.
- Visual thinker with strong problem-solving and idea implementation skills.
- Ability to influence people to adhere to company policies, procedures, and instructions.
- Good verbal and written communication skills; bilingual Spanish language skills are a plus but not required.
- High level of attention to detail, with strong analytical and organizational capabilities.
- Ability to inspect and evaluate various elements of the project, including mechanical, civil, and electrical components.
- Ability to multi-task effectively, including prioritizing work, organizing resources, and managing schedules.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced construction environment with changing priorities.
- Willingness to travel to sites outside the immediate territory as project needs require.

Work Environment
This role is primarily field-based, with candidates working outside most of the time on active solar farm construction sites. A site trailer will serve as a field office for meetings, documentation, and coordination activities. You will work closely with project management, engineering teams, and subcontractors while performing quality control work for the general contractor. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, with Saturday and Sunday work common; candidates must be available for weekend work as needed. You can anticipate approximately 0–15 hours of overtime per week depending on project demands. Work is conducted in typical outdoor construction conditions, requiring appropriate safety gear and adherence to site safety protocols.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $50.00/hr.
