● About Facility:
o 1 Medical Center Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC 27157
o 885 licensed beds
o Level 1 Trauma Designation
o Teaching Hospital: Yes, Academic Medical Center
o Chest Pain Center
o Stroke Center
● Unit Information:
o Beds: 16 on PHO and 16 on PA
▪ Average 14-32 patients per day
o Minimum Years of Experience required?
▪ PHO: 1 year in Pediatric hem/oncology acute care
▪ PA: 1 year in pediatric acute care
o Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes, with a strong pediatric background
● Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
o Leukemia, solid tumors, sickle cell crisis, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, behavioral health overlay, general adolescent medicine
● Patient Ratios:
o RN:
▪ Peds Hem/Oncology - 1: 3-4
▪ Peds Adolescent Medicine – 1:4-5
o CNA: 1:6-16
● Required Licensure & Certifications:
o PA: BLS, PALS preferred
o PHO: BLS, PALS preferred, APHON required chemo certification required
● Skills required:
o Central line management, chemo administration, strong pediatric assessment and critical thinking.
● Support within the Department:
o CNA: vital signs, ADL, safety rounding, I&Os
o Receptionist/HUC
o Charge nurse
o Phlebotomy
o IV/VAT Team - for difficult peripheral access
o Resource Nurse: availability varies
o RT, 24/7
o Hospitalist, 24/7
o Intensivist, 24/7
o Bedside telemetry monitoring, no Tele tech is available.
● Technology/Equipment:
o EMR: Epic
o IV Pump: Alaris
o Med dispensing: Omnicell
o Monitors:
o Unit specific equipment:
● Floating: If yes, where?
o Will work routinely between PA and PHO and other units in Brenner except Peds ED.
● Orientation (facility and unit):
o NEO
o 2 days departmental
● Other notes:
o Scrub Color: Royal blue, can wear pediatric appropriate scrub top
o Parking: Free
