We are searching for a detail-oriented and safety-focused Commissioning Technician to support power generation and distribution projects. This hands-on role is ideal for someone who excels in field environments and has strong knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation, and startup procedures. The ideal candidate will play a key role in bringing complex systems online safely and efficiently, working closely with engineers, contractors, and utility stakeholders. Job Description: Commissioning Technician
Reports To: Principal Engineer
Classification: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Location: On-Site: Texas, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Missouri
Travel Requirements: Minimal

SUMMARY
The Commissioning Technician is responsible for performing and documenting startup, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of electrical, mechanical, and control systems in power generation, transmission, and distribution projects.

PRIMARY DUTIES


  • Ensure that systems are installed and operating per standards, specifications, and expectations.
  • Review system drawings, schematics, and test plans to prepare for commissioning activities.
  • Perform inspections, verifications, loop checks, and point-to-point wiring validation.
  • Collaborate with engineers and subcontractors during system energization and troubleshooting.
  • Complete and maintain accurate commissioning documentation, test reports, and punch lists.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety policies, industry codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support system handoff to operations, including end-user training or documentation as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT


  • Frequent standing and walking at substations and outdoor job sites in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and perform work in confined spaces or at heights.
  • Frequent and repetitive motions, such as reaching, gripping, stretching, twisting, bending, stooping, and kneeling.
  • Adequate vision, hearing, and speech for communication and safety awareness.
  • Extended exposure to outdoor conditions, including heat, cold, rain, dust, mud, and noise, for extended periods.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • High school diploma or GED and 3+ years of experience (or trade school and minimal experience)
  • Familiarity with relay testing, SCADA, protection systems, and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, control logic, and wiring diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of test equipment such as multimeters, relay test sets, and signal simulators.
  • OSHA 10/30 certification or the ability to obtain.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
  • Specific power industry certifications or training preferred.
  • Basic PLC or HMI programming knowledge, preferred but not required
  • CPR/First Aid certification is desirable.
