● About Facility:

o 130 Licensed Beds
o Stroke Center
o Radius rule: Traveler’s permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit
● Department Information:
o Beds:
▪ PACU/Phase 1 = 11
▪ Phase 2 = 11
▪ Pre-Op = 7
o Average patients/day? 25 to 35 patients per day
o Minimum Years of Experience required? 5 years RN experience; must have 2 years of PACU specific experience
o Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes
● Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
o Surgical patients – Peds to Adults
o 70% Outpatient; 30% Inpatient
o Common case types include but are not limited to: Urology, GYN, Ortho, ENT, Maxillofacial, GYN, General (Lap Chole, Bowel Resection)
o No vascular
o No Neuro/Spine
o No large general surgery procedures
o No Bariatrics
o No Whipples
o Occasionally, ICU level patients
● Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.), or other position specific requirements such as Driver's License and/or Insurance:
o RN: BLS, ACLS, PALS
● Skills required:
o Charting with Cerner or EPIC
o Pre-op experience – IV starts, medication reconciliation, prep
o PACU experience to include some critical care – critical care drips include but are not limited to: Levophed, Propofol, Epi
o ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy) experience
o MAC recovery (ECT and Lithotripsy)
o Strong customer service skills and comfortability with discharge teaching
● Support within the Department:
o Departmental Leadership
o Charge RN
o CNA support will float through different areas
o Transport to transfer to inpatient units
o Unit secretary in Pre-Op
o CRNA/Anesthesia support
o Surgeon team
o Respiratory Therapy
● Technology/Equipment:
o EMR: EPIC
o Alaris
o Omnicell
o Philips monitors
● Floating: If yes, where?
o None – will work routinely through Pre-Op and PACU (Phase 1 & 2 through discharge)
● Orientation (facility and unit):
o Departmental – 3-5 days, dependent on comfort and experience level
● Scheduling:
o Weekend rotation: none required – optional only
o Required Call:
▪ On call 3-4 weeknights per 6-week schedule
▪ Shift Times: 2100-0700
▪ Call back time: 30 min
▪ Sleep room: no
o Holiday Expectations: no holidays
o RTO: Manager approval
o Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
