Job Description
Position Overview
- Perform routine dental cleanings to remove plaque and tartar buildup
- Conduct root planning and scaling procedures to treat and prevent periodontal disease
- Carry out dental prophylaxis to maintain oral health and prevent cavities and gum disease
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and preventive care
- Recording and updating patient’s medical history
- Record all treatment rendered, patient education, and teaching in the dental record and date/sign each entry
- Record preliminary examination of the oral cavity, including charting of:
- Periodontal pockets
- Gum recession
- Attachment loss
- Description of soft tissue condition
- Caries and other lesions
- Existing restorations and missing teeth
- Classifying occlusion and identifying contributing factors for presentation to the dentist
- Strictly adhere to HIPAA standards and regulations in managing or handling patient information or inquiries
- Keep dental operatory areas clean and orderly
- Follow preventative maintenance procedures and infection control guidelines
- Participate in dental peer review process
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Dental Department Practice Manager
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate from an accredited Dental Hygiene school; currently licensed and registered in NYS
- Minimum of 1 year clinical experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with computers, electronic medical records software, and Microsoft Office Suite preferred
