Job Description

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our dedicated eye care team. We are committed to providing the highest quality patient care and a seamless experience for every individual who walks through our doors. In this vital role, you will work closely with our optometrists to perform preliminary screenings, assist during examinations, and ensure efficient clinic operations.

If you have a passion for helping people see better and are a collaborative team player, we encourage you to apply!

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Preparation and Testing: Greet patients and take detailed medical and ocular histories. Conduct preliminary eye exams and diagnostic tests, including visual acuity, tonometry, autorefraction, visual field testing, and retinal imaging.
  • Assist the Optometrist: Prepare the examination room, ensure all necessary instruments and supplies are available, and assist the doctor during patient examinations and minor in-office procedures.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients on proper eye care, contact lens insertion, removal, and maintenance, and explain the purpose of various tests and procedures.
  • Administrative Support: Accurately document patient data and test results in our electronic health records (EHR) system. Manage patient flow, schedule appointments, and assist with insurance verification and billing processes as needed.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Clean, sterilize, and maintain all clinical equipment and examination rooms in accordance with safety and sanitation protocols (HIPAA, OSHA).

Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping and measurements.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and a willingness to learn optometry-specific software and diagnostic equipment.

Preferred:

  • Certification as a Paraoptometric (CPO) or Paraoptometric Assistant (CPOA) through the American Optometric Association (AOA) or a related certification.
  • Knowledge of optical and optometric terminology.
  • Familiarity with health insurance billing and coding processes.
