A rewarding opportunity is available for an experienced MedSurg/Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) to provide exceptional patient care in a dynamic hospital setting located in Winston-Salem, NC. This contract role supports a busy 24-bed unit within a Level 1 Trauma Designated, teaching, academic medical center known for its comprehensive chest pain and stroke centers.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct and indirect nursing care to patients with diverse diagnoses including diabetes, gastrointestinal, respiratory, renal issues, wounds requiring dressing changes, chest tubes, and tracheostomies.
  • Perform clinical tasks such as PIV starts, drain and tube management, chest tube care, lab draws, and PCA pump oversight.
  • Monitor telemetry strips accurately and manage drips including Amiodarone, Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, Dilaudid PCA, and Heparin.
  • Collaborate closely with CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomists, IV/VAT teams, rapid response teams, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists to provide holistic patient care.
  • Uphold strong communication standards in both oral and written forms, working effectively under moderate to high stress in a patient-centered, highly reliable team culture.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Current RN license with a minimum of 2 years MedSurg experience required.
  • Certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
  • Proficiency reading telemetry strips and managing complex nursing interventions.
  • Ability to handle a patient ratio of about 5-6:1 (RN) supported by CNAs at 8:1.
  • First-time travelers considered based on experience and skills.

Schedule & Work Environment:

  • Shifts available: 0630-1900 or 1830-0630.
  • Weekend rotations every other week; no call duties.
  • Holiday work expected about 75% of the time.
  • Orientation includes a 2-day departmental New Employee Orientation.
  • Free employee parking and a scrub color code of royal blue.
