JOB SUMMARY
The Credit Decision Strategy Analyst is responsible for the configuration, maintenance, and optimization of the company’s automated credit decisioning platform. This role programs and manages decision rules, workflows, and automated processes within the credit decision engine operated through The Financial Network Inc (FNI).
The position works closely with Credit Risk, Operations, Product, and Data teams to translate underwriting strategies and business requirements into rule-based decision logic governing loan approvals, declines, and operational workflows. The analyst plays a key role in ensuring automated credit decisions are implemented accurately, tested thoroughly, and monitored for performance and effectiveness.
This role contributes to the company’s ability to scale loan originations efficiently while maintaining strong credit performance and operational consistency.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Decision Engine Configuration
- Configure, implement, and maintain credit decision rules within the FNI decision engine.
- Develop and maintain decision logic governing loan approvals, declines, and conditional outcomes.
- Implement automated workflows, routing logic, and rule-based tasks within the decision platform.
- Maintain the structure and organization of the decision tree and associated rule sets.
Credit Strategy Implementation
- Translate underwriting policies and credit strategies into executable decision rules.
- Assist with implementing updates to credit eligibility criteria, pricing rules, and approval thresholds.
- Support the rollout of new credit products and automated decision strategies.
Testing and Quality Assurance
- Develop and execute testing protocols for new or modified decision rules.
- Validate rule performance in development and user acceptance testing environments prior to production deployment.
- Conduct scenario-based testing to confirm decision outcomes align with intended business logic.
Monitoring and Performance Analysis
- Monitor automated decision outputs and rule performance.
- Identify unexpected rule behavior, decision conflicts, or operational inefficiencies.
- Assist in analyzing approval and decline trends and evaluating rule effectiveness.
Platform Integration Support
- Support decision logic associated with integrations with external data providers and internal platforms.
- Work with credit bureau data from providers such as Experian and Equifax.
- Support integrations with loan origination systems, identity verification tools, and data warehouse platforms.
- Ensure attributes, variables, and data mappings used in decision logic are accurate and functioning properly.
Documentation and Governance
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of rules, workflows, and decision logic.
- Assist in maintaining a centralized catalog of decision rules and strategies.
- Support governance and change management processes for decision engine updates.
- Provide documentation support for audits, compliance reviews, and internal reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Two to five years of experience in lending, fintech, credit risk, data analysis, or platform configuration roles.
- Experience working with rules engines, decision engines, or workflow automation systems.
- Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
- Ability to translate business requirements into rule-based decision logic.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
Preferred
- Experience in consumer lending or automated underwriting environments.
- Familiarity with credit bureau attributes and credit scoring models.
- Exposure to loan origination systems or decision platforms.
- Experience working with SQL, scripting, or data analysis tools.
- Experience with testing frameworks or quality assurance processes.
