The Scale Operator is responsible for the accurate weighing, grading, and documentation of all inbound and outbound grain and product shipments. This role serves as a key point of contact for drivers, vendors, and plant personnel, ensuring efficient traffic flow, compliance with quality standards, and accurate data entry into plant systems.
JOB RESPONSIBILITES:
- Inspect, sample, and grade incoming grain to ensure it meets company quality standards; reject loads that do not meet specifications.
- Weigh all inbound and outbound trucks using the scale system and ensure accurate ticketing and documentation.
- Direct truck traffic to appropriate loading and unloading areas within the facility.
- Communicate with the Production team to coordinate timely unloading and minimize delays.
- Enter and maintain accurate customer, vendor, and product data in grain receiving and scale software systems.
- Maintain daily records of truck volumes, shipments, and related documentation.
- Collect and label grain samples in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensure the scale house, scale area, and surrounding grounds are clean, organized, and presentable.
- Provide excellent customer service by greeting drivers and visitors professionally and assisting or directing them as needed.
- Support operational efficiency by identifying and communicating issues related to grain quality, traffic flow, or system discrepancies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
- Ability to interact professionally with employees, drivers, and vendors
Preferred:
- Previous experience in grain handling, scale operations, or agriculture-related environment
- Experience with grain grading and sampling procedures
- Familiarity with scale or grain management software systems
WORK ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Work is performed in a scale house and outdoor plant environment with exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, and noise.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Frequent use of telephone and/or communication via speaker at scale
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
HOURS and RATE of PAY:
- Position will operate Monday-Friday, with the flexibility to work overtime and adjust hours as needed.
- Position starts at $22.00 per hour.
