Job Title: Payroll Specialist II
Location: Detroit, MI (On-site)
Contract Duration: 14 weeks
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (flexibility available)
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform online edits and corrections in the PeopleSoft payroll system.
- Communicate with Henry Ford Hospital (HFH) programmers and participate in testing pay-related issues.
- Calculate and audit special check requests from departments and HR.
- Analyze past payroll information to process internal adjustments as needed.
- Identify and correct errors in exception time reports within PeopleSoft.
- Review and validate Kronos schedules and timekeeping data, ensuring compliance with payroll policies.
- Contact department supervisors and management to resolve timecard discrepancies.
- Answer complex payroll-related inquiries from employees, timekeepers, management, and HR.
- Handle garnishment checks, mailing legal statements to requestors (e.g., courts, attorneys, IRS).
- Process stop payments and voided checks for reversal and reissue.
- Deduct union dues, pharmacy charges, vendor sales, Gold Coast, and other withholdings from paychecks.
- Investigate and process overpayment adjustments from employee paychecks.
- Apply appropriate codes, rules, and regulations to payroll transactions in PeopleSoft.
- Work closely with the Payroll Analyst and Accounting team to ensure accurate general ledger allocations.
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive payroll information.
- Resolve ‘no-time’ errors for employees listed as active but without recorded hours.
- Meet deadlines, work under pressure, and be available for overtime as needed.
- Assist with special projects as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent (Required).
- Preferred Certifications: Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).
- Experience: Minimum two (2) years of payroll experience (hospital payroll experience preferred).
- Proficiency in PeopleSoft and Kronos payroll/timekeeping systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information securely and with discretion.
- Excellent organizational skills for tracking documents, records, and logs in CRM systems.
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple assignments efficiently.
- Team player with a professional demeanor and strong communication & customer service skills.

Work Environment:
- Mental/visual strain may result from frequent reading, documentation, and handling payroll inquiries.
