Job Summary
Provides direct clinical care under the supervision of a Licensed Practical Nurse or other clinicians. Draws blood, gives injections, takes vital signs, and completes documentation of activities in the medical chart. Provides general assistance throughout the patient visit and during any applicable procedures.
Primary Essential Duties
•Monitors WWC vaccine program, including maintaining a perpetual inventory, ordering from the Department of Health and commercial vendors, adequate storage, appropriate utilization, reporting to the Department of Health, and education of other medical assistants.
•Draws blood and ensures proper specimen handling and storage.
•Gives intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections under the supervision of an appropriate clinician, as ordered by the physician and within practice limit.
•Accurately takes and records patient vital signs and documents activities and results in medical records.
•Assists patients in preparing for medical exams and procedures.
•Assists the provider as needed with procedures and/or protocols.
•Provides limited patient education around issues such as hygiene, vital signs, and self-care.
•Prepares exam rooms for patient visits.
Education and Experience Required
• Graduation from an approved medical assistant program is required, and medical office or HIV/AIDS experience is preferred.
• Certification or Registration as a Medical Assistant
• CPR Certified
• Experience working with an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse work staff preferred; ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals required
