An opportunity exists for a Registered Nurse specializing in Oncology to provide exceptional patient care in a vibrant healthcare setting located in Winston-Salem, NC. This contract position offers a chance to work within a highly regarded academic medical center known for its comprehensive cancer care services. Nurses in this role will be key contributors to a compassionate team caring for patients with various oncology diagnoses, including hematology, surgical, and gynecologic cancers.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver nursing care to oncology patients, with patient-to-nurse ratios ranging from 1:4 to 1:5.
- Perform venipuncture, IV insertions, central line care, and manage blood transfusions safely.
- Monitor and manage symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and mucositis.
- Conduct infection prevention protocols and monitor lab values to guide treatment.
- Utilize advanced technology including Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Philips monitors.
- Collaborate closely with CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, and respiratory therapists for comprehensive patient support.
- Float within the cancer center primarily, with potential temporary assignments to other med-surg units as needed.
- Participate in weekend rotations every other week and work approximately 75% of holidays.
Qualifications:
- Active RN license with at least 1 year of oncology nursing experience; first-time travelers are welcome.
- Certification in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS is required; Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred.
- Proficient in central line and wound care.
- Strong clinical skills in managing complex oncology treatments and symptom control.
Schedule/Hours:
- 12-hour shifts, either days (6:30 AM to 7:00 PM) or nights (6:30 PM to 7:00 AM).
- Schedule cycles every 6 weeks.
- Up to 7-day return to office (RTO) required to complete a full 13-week contract.
