Job Overview

The Director – Claims will lead the strategic direction, operational quality, and continuous improvement of the claims function, ensuring fair treatment of customers, compliance with regulatory standards, and strong financial performance. This role will serve as a key member of the leadership team, reporting directly to the Chief Customer Officer, and will play a pivotal role in shaping claims policies, driving innovation, and supporting the company’s growth objectives.

Essential Functions

  • Strategic Leadership: Define, implement, and refine the claims strategy to align with corporate goals, support profitable growth, and maintain competitive advantage.
  • Claims Oversight: Direct and oversee the handling of all claims to ensure fair, timely, and accurate resolution.
  • Performance Management: Monitor and report on key performance metrics including indemnity spending, claims severity, and customer satisfaction; identify trends and implement corrective actions.
  • Vendor & TPA Management: Manage and optimize relationships with Third-Party Administrators, and other claims service providers, ensuring adherence to service-level agreements and cost-efficiency.
  • Technology Enablement: Collaborate with technology teams to maximize the use of Guidewire ClaimsCenter for process efficiency, automation, analytics, and reporting.
  • Team Development: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing claims team; foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with all applicable state and federal insurance regulations and internal governance requirements.
  • Executive Representation: Represent the claims function at executive, and governance forums, providing insights and recommendations to influence business decisions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives to streamline processes, enhance fraud detection, improve loss ratios, and drive operational excellence.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support evolving business priorities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of evolving experience in auto insurance claims management, including at least 5 years in senior leadership roles.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. auto claims processes, legal frameworks, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing TPAs, repair networks, and reinsurers.
  • Guidewire experience is highly preferred.
  • OEM insurance program knowledge is advantageous.
  • Proven ability to lead high-performing teams, with strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional customer experience and operational excellence.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Office Location

  • Torrance, CA - Hybrid (Tuesday and Thursday in office).

Compensation

  • For California based hires, the annual salary range is $137,000 - $150,000 depending on experience
  • FLSA Job Status is Exempt.
