Job DescriptionVantage Hemp is a private company that established a large-scale, state-of-the-art hemp extraction facility in Greeley, CO. The extraction facility has become a key player in the rapidly growing CBD industry with plans to expand quickly, leveraging a genuine science-based research and development approach.
Position Summary: This is a hands-on, full-time Accountant position with day-to-day duties that include overseeing all aspects of accounting operations for a hemp manufacturing company. The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing and analyzing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. This role requires a proactive individual who can manage accounting functions independently, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and provide valuable financial insights to support business decisions.
Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities:
Core Accounting Operations – 50%
- Own day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, inventory reconciliation, cash management, and general ledger maintenance.
- Lead month-end, quarter-end and year-end close, inventory reconciliation, ensuring accurate cutoffs, reconciliations, and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare and deliver monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) with clear variance analysis and manufacturing-relevant insights.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure compliance with GAAP/company policies, with consistent documentation and audit-ready support.
- Lead coordination of external audit and tax preparation with outside advisors.
- Implement and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Manufacturing Financial Analysis & Controls – 30%
- Work collaboratively with department heads to support budgeting and financial planning.
- Track and analyze inventory valuation, production costs, and cost of goods sold (COGS), including material, labor, and overhead allocations.
- Partner with operations to strengthen cost accounting practices (standard cost, actual cost, variances, scrap/waste, yields) and improve margin visibility.
- Develop and maintain accounting processes and internal controls tailored to manufacturing workflows, including inventory counts/cycle counts, bill of lading/routing impacts, and production reporting.
- Identify and implement process improvements to streamline the close, reduce errors, and improve reporting accuracy (e.g., SOPs, checklists, and automation opportunities).
Compliance, Collaboration & External Relations – 20%
- Support compliance with tax, legal, and regulatory requirements relevant to hemp manufacturing, including documentation, reporting, and record retention.
- Collaborate with production, quality, operations, and leadership to provide financial analysis that supports decision-making (pricing, purchasing, capacity, and spend controls).
- Serve as the primary accounting liaison for external auditors, tax preparers/advisors, banks, and regulatory stakeholders, coordinating requests and ensuring timely responses.
Education and Experience needed for the role:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or a related field is required.
- CPA certification is preferred.
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and GAAP.
- 3+ years of experience in financial accounting, bookkeeping, or a related role in a small to mid-sized manufacturing organization is preferred.
Specialized skills needed to be successful:
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in all interactions. Must be able to compose standard business emails and correspondence and have sound grammar.
- Knowledge and experience with MS Office (Outlook and Excel) and accounting software.
- Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles.
- Experience in a manufacturing setting is ideal but not required.
- Be highly organized, detail-oriented, and efficient.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
- Able to multitask with distractions and maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality.
- Intermediate skills in ERP (Business Central or similar) Proficiency with Dynamics 365 Business Central accounting software and advanced Excel skills preferred.
Work Hours: The expected hours for this role will be 5 days a week, Monday – Friday, from 7:00am to 6:00pm. Employees' hours vary and are dependent on business needs, and some evenings and weekends may be needed to satisfy the needs of the position. Some travel is required (10%).
Annual Salary: $78,000 to $96,000 (depending on experience)
Benefits: For Full-Time eligible employees, paid time off (3 weeks), 80 hours of sick time, and Employer-paid health and dental coverage for the employee only.
