Position Title: Special Education Teacher – Cross-Categorical (SPED Cross Cat)
Location: South Riding, VA (20164)
Job Type: Contract (Local or Travel)
Shift: Day Shift | 8:50 AM – 3:40 PM
Assignment Length: 31 Weeks
Weekly Hours: 35 Hours
Pay Rate: $40–$45 per hour

Position Overview

"Navitas Healthcare, LLC" is seeking Special Education Teacher – Cross-Categorical (SPED Cross Cat) for an exciting job in South Riding, VA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct special education instruction to students across multiple disability categories

  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in compliance with IDEA and state regulations

  • Adapt curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessments to meet individual learning needs

  • Deliver instruction in individual, small-group, and inclusive classroom settings

  • Collect, analyze, and document data to monitor progress toward IEP goals

  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and differentiated instruction

  • Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, and parent conferences

  • Implement behavior intervention plans and provide classroom behavior support as needed

  • Maintain accurate documentation, progress reports, and compliance records

  • Support students’ academic, social, behavioral, and functional skill development

  • Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment

  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress

Required Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education

  • Active or eligible Virginia Special Education teaching license (Cross-Categorical or equivalent endorsement)

Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with students with disabilities in a school-based setting

  • Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and IEP processes

  • Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learning needs

  • Strong classroom management and behavior support skills

  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and time-management abilities

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary educational team

  • Professionalism, flexibility, and commitment to student-centered instruction

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a Cross-Categorical Special Education Teacher

  • Experience supporting students with autism, emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, or intellectual disabilities

  • Familiarity with inclusive practices and co-teaching models

  • Experience implementing behavior intervention plans and data-driven instruction
